Can AI bots crawl the right content to help LLMs surface your brand?

Generative engines like ChatGPT and Claude don’t crawl sites like traditional search engines. They use different bots that gather different data.

The AI Difference Engine (AIDE) shows page content AI bots can access, helping quickly identify what's missing from AI datasets.

The findings are grouped based on content types that can impact brand visibility in LLMs.

Find meaningful elements that AI is missing.

AI bots don’t render JavaScript like Google. Content users see on a page might be missing from data LLMs use to answer prompts.

AIDE reports the response HTML that AI can crawl and categorizes it by content type, so you can check for missing page elements like:

→ Text that users can see on the page
→ Links that users can see and interact with
→ Media references to images, audio, and video
→ Potentially valuable code snippets like metadata

Pinpoint problematic content that shouldn’t be visible.

Since AI bots crawl text in code that search engines traditionally ignore, the content is eligible for use by generative engines.

AIDE makes it easier to audit code for problematic items like:

→ Embarrassing content that reflects poorly on the brand
→ Inaccurate or outdated information that misleads users
→ Confidential/proprietary information that puts the brand at risk
→ Personally identifiable & private information from users

How does AIDE support an AI tech audit?

The AI Difference Engine shows content that’s available to AI bots. This allows you to gauge whether a site is providing the right context for generative engines, which may use bot-collected data to surface brands in answers.

What should I look for when using this tool?

  1. Is there anything problematic that shows up, such as embarrassing, confidential, or security-related information? (This content may be invisible to users, but visible to AI bots.)
  2. Is the report missing page content that could help generative engines understand your brand and surface it answers? (Users can see content in rendered HTML, but AI bots can generally only access response HTML.)

Which elements in the response HTML matter most to generative engines?

Based on the data that’s available today, there’s no good way to confirm whether each of the elements in the report matter, or how much they matter, to generative engines.

That’s true for a couple of reasons:

  1. Each LLM has a unique approach to generating answers based on the data its crawler collects.
  2. AI search is evolving rapidly, so the way in which tools crawl, collect, and utilize data will likely change over time.

Does AIDE show schema in the report because it’s “special” in AI search?

We don’t have any evidence that schema is particularly meaningful for AI search. However, in some scenarios it might be collected as part of the data set for a page. That means schema is part of the context that generative engines can use to provide answers.

How do I know which AI bots have access to a site?

No gatekeeping here! Use the LLM Access Checker extension.

Does this extension collect my data?

To keep it short and sweet... no! But you can get the longer version of “no” by reading our still-really-short privacy policy.
